EX-Pakistan Cricketer Approaches Umar Akmal For Match-Fixing In Global T20

Once again, the headlines regarding the match-fixing take place in International Cricket. This time, it comes into the limelight after the former Pakistan cricketer Mansoor Akhtar approaches Umar Akmal with the negative mindset. However, the flamboyant batsman was quick in following the rules, who reported the incident to the concerned official.

According to reports, Akmal was approached by former Pakistan cricketer Mansoor Akhtar. He allegedly asked the middle-order batsman to fix matches during the T20 tournament. Currently, it is being held in Brampton, Ontario and has several Pakistan cricketers in action.

Umar Akmal reported the approach to the Pakistan Cricket Board and the Global T20 League administration, following which the anti-corruption officials at the T20 competition instructed the cricketers to stay wary of any such approaches and report them immediately.

Akhtar represented Pakistan from 1980 to 1990 in 19 Tests and 41 one-day internationals. However, he has not been visible since the fixing approach became public. The anti-corruption unit of the GT20 League has already warned players participating in the event regarding match-fixers. In particular, they asked to be wary of two men, a person identified as Krish who belongs to India, and Mansoor Akhtar.

If approached by any of these two men, players should immediately inform the relevant authorities, the officials said. Well, as expected, Umar Akmal was approached by Mansoor Akhtar, as they both hail from the same country.

In total, five players from Pakistan were granted No Objection Certificates (NOCs) by the PCB to participate in the league. These players include all-rounders Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez, pacer Wahab Riaz, leg-spinner Shadab Khan and middle-order batsman Umar Akmal.

Shahid Afridi also involved in the tournament but he doesn’t require NOC from PCB much like Mohammad Irfan, who is not a centrally-contracted player.

As far as the tournament is concerned, Shahid Afridi, Wahab Riaz-involved Brompton Wolves are at the top of the table while Chris Gayle’s Vancouver Knights taking the second place. The final winner of the tournament will be decided on August 11th.
