ICC World Cup 2019: India Players' Rating

India had a shocking exit from the ICC World Cup 2019 losing to New Zealand by 18 runs in the semifinals of the ICC World Cup 2019. Chasing 240 runs, the Men in Blues were all out for 221 runs at the Old Trafford in Manchester.

Apart from this match, Virat Kohli & Co were pretty much thorough in this World Cup dominating the group stages and finishing at the top of the points table. Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah were the top performers for India with significant contributions from the other players’ as well.

ROHIT SHARMA (9.5/10)

Rohit Sharma has been the star performer for India hitting five centuries including three consecutive hundred. The right-handed opener finished as the highest run-scorer with 648 runs from nine matches at an average of 81. He is now the second highest run-scorer after Sachin Tendulkar (673) in one season of the World Cup.

KL RAHUL (6.5/10)

KL Rahul has blown hot and cold in this World Cup and lacked consistency. He finished with 361 runs from nine games including one hundred and two fifties. The India opener will have to strive for consistency and seal his berth in the limited-overs playing XI.

VIRAT KOHLI (7.5/10)

Virat Kohli managed to score five consecutive half-centuries but ended his World Cup campaign without a hundred. The India skipper finished with 443 runs from nine matches at an average of 55.37. Kohli; however, will regret not winning the trophy as they had the best opportunity to win the cup.

RISHABH PANT (4.5/10)

Rishabh Pant came in as a replacement for injured Shikhar Dhawan in the middle of the tournament. He impressed with his gutsy batting but lacks maturity. He is certainly a player for the future and the management will want to nurture him well as he has the capability to be the best in the business.

MS DHONI (4/10)

MS Dhoni has struggled to get going in his last World Cup campaign. He has failed to score runs at a good pace which earned a lot of criticisms all over the globe. The former India skipper who is in the twilight of his career will look to finish things on a high when India play West Indies next.

DINESH KARTHIK (1/10)

Dinesh Karthik came into the playing in place of Kedar Jadhav to strengthen the batting unit of India. But the veteran wicket-keeper batsman has failed to make any mark in the tournament. He has scored 14 runs from two matches and will look to forget this tournament as early as possible.

HARDIK PANDYA (5.5/10)

Hardik Pandya has had a good campaign impressing with both bat and ball. He bowled ten overs in a good rhythm which will be heartening for the management in the upcoming future. Pandya will have to shoulder more responsibility in the near future as India will look to achieve more laurels despite the World Cup defeat.

RAVINDRA JADEJA (7/10)

Ravindra Jadeja played only two World Cup games but has made his presence felt. He was economical with the ball and played the best ODI knock of his career against New Zealand in the semifinals. The veteran all-rounder is a committed cricketer and provides balance to any team.

BHUVNESHWAR KUMAR (5/10)

Bhuvneshwar Kumar has had an average World Cup campaign. He struggled with injuries and despite being economical, he has failed to chip in with wickets at crucial moments. The senior pacer will have to contribute more to retain his place in the playing XI.

KULDEEP YADAV (4/10)

Kuldeep Yadav has failed to live up to the expectations in his first World Cup. He has managed to pick only six wickets in the tournament and was also not a regular in the playing XI for India. Kuldeep’s best game was against Pakistan when he returned with two for 32 to help his side register an easy win.

MOHAMMED SHAMI (6/10)

Mohammed Shami grabbed 14 wickets from four matches including a five-wicket haul against England. But the Bengal pacer has failed to live upto the expectation going for plenty in the death overs which also marked his ouster from the playing XI.

YUZVENDRA CHAHAL (5/10)

Yuzvendra Chahal has had a very average campaign as has failed to replicate his dominance in the middle overs. He has gone for plenty despite picking 12 wickets in this World Cup. The leg-spinner needs to bounce back strong if India want to make a strong come back after their shocking exit.

JASPRIT BUMRAH (9/10)

Jasprit Bumrah has lived upto his expectations and has done an exceptional job with the ball whenever his captain has called him to bowl. The top-ranked ODI bowler returned with 18 wickets from nine matches at an economy rate of 4.41. Bumrah will hope to keep up the excellent job in the future and lead India’s bowling.

MAYANK AGARWAL (0/10)

Mayank Agarwal came into the squad as a replacement for injured Vijay Shankar before the last match of the group stage. He didn’t feature in any game but this will be a learning curve for the young batsman sharing the dressing room with some of the biggest stars.

KEDAR JADHAV (3/10)

Kedar Jadhav carried an injury to the World Cup but recovered well in time to play the first game. But the all-rounder has failed to create any kind of impact in the tournament. Although he scored a fifty against Afghanistan, but Jadhav will certainly not be happy with his performance before the management decided to drop him.
