ICC World Cup 2019: Virat Kohli In Line To Break Sachin Tendulkar And Brian Lara's Joint Record

India skipper Virat Kohli has been in excellent form in the ICC World Cup 2019 so far. He has led the team from the front as India have secured four wins from five matches they have played so far with one game ending in a no result. As India look forward to the West Indies tie, Kohli stands in line to break a record held by Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara for long.

Kohli has been in fine form in the World Cup

The Men in Blues will look to secure their fifth win of the tournament to take one step closer to the semifinal berth. Virat Kohli & Co will have to produce an improved effort from the Afghanistan match where they escaped a shocker beating the minnows by 11 runs. The batters will have to take the onus on themselves to back the bowlers who have looked outstanding so far in the tournament.

The Indian skipper, who has 19,963 international runs needs only 37 runs to touch the landmark of 20000 international runs. Virat Kohli will become the fastest to the milestone overtaking Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara. Both Tendulkar and Lara had taken 453 innings to complete 20,000 international runs. On the other hand, Kohli has played only 416 innings so far – 131 in Tests, 223 in ODIs and 62 in T20Is. Former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting finds himself on the third spot, who had taken 468 innings to get to the feat.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli will become the 12th batsmen to achieve this feat. He is also the third Indian after Sachin Tendulkar (34,357 runs) and Rahul Dravid (24,208 runs) to touch this landmark. The top-ranked ODI batsman has been in stellar form so far in the World Cup and will look to keep up the excellent form. So far, he has scored 244 runs from four matches at an average of 61 including three half-centuries. Kohli will look to convert the fifties to the three-figure mark in the upcoming games.

India play West Indies on June 27 (Thursday) at the Old Trafford in Manchester.
