Team India vice-captain Rohit Sharma is known for putting his opinions forward on various issues. The cricketer has been recently engaged with wildlife protection which has been major challenge across the globe. To do his bit, the illustrious cricketer has donated Rs 25 lakhs to WWF and Ol Pejeta, working with wildlife conservation.

Rohit Sharma has been closely working with the conservation of Rhinos and animals as a whole. His interest grew in 2015 when he first met Sudan — the last male Northern White African Rhino. The cricketer was taken aback by hearing that they are nearing extinction due to poaching, loss of habitat and climate change.

This had a massive impact on Rohit, who then started working closely with organisations who focus on wildlife conservation. Among the many campaigns and causes he has actively supported over the years have been the WWF India’s Rhino Conservation, Ol Pejeta’s Rhino Conservation and Save Our Rhinos Africa India (SORAI) — to stop illegal poaching of animals which he supported by putting the sticker on the back of his bat.

On his work front, Rohit Sharma will open the innings alongside Mayank Agarwal in the first Test against South Africa starting from October 2. Rohit, who has batted in the middle-order so far in the Test, will open the batting for the first time after KL Rahul lost his place owing to poor form.

Skipper Virat Kohli has backed Rohit to open the innings and be successful. Kohli confirmed that they are not in a hurry with Rohit Sharma. The India skipper also said that Rohit will get adequate time to find his rhythm at the top-order.

“We are in no hurry with Rohit Sharma as opener. He will be given time and space to find his rhythm and the way he wants to play at the top,” Kohli said at the pre-match press conference.
