Harbhajan Singh, the veteran India off-spinner has shared high praise for young mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy, who has grabbed everybody’s attention in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions at Jaipur.

Meanwhile, starting at Rs 20 Lakh, the auction room witnessed some interesting bid for the mystery spinner. However, after some intense bidding, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) roped in the all-rounder for a hefty sum of Rs 8.4 crores. With Ravichandran Ashwin and Mujeeb-ur-Rahman already in their ranks, the inclusion of Varun Chakaravarthy will bolster their squad.

Chakravarthy’s rise in the Indian domestic cricket has been meteoric. Playing in the Tamil Nadu Premier League 2018, he captured the attention of the state selectors with his phenomenal discipline and control in bowling. In the victorious campaign, he recorded an unbelievable economy rate of 4.7 from 10 T20 matches.

He soon made into Tamil Nadu’s limited-overs team, and Varun Chakaravarthy bagged 22 wickets from just nine matches. Earlier this year, Dinesh Karthik invited Varun to attend Kolkata Knight Riders practice sessions. It did him a world of good bowling alongside the likes of Sunil Narine and Kuldeep Yadav.

While he has been over the moon following his auctions, Varun received some massive applaud from Harbhajan Singh. Harbhajan, who was a part of the Chennai Super Kings squad last year, saw him bowl at the nets. He was so impressed that he admitted that Varun Chakaravarthy has the potential to represent India.
