Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are hosting Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 57th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The match, which will be crucial in the context of the playoffs qualification, is being played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday (8th May).

This will be the first time that Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will be squaring off with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2024. The two teams had played each other just three times in the history of the league and going into the game, the KL Rahul-led side will be high on confidence because they have won all previous three games against Orange Army.

Both SRH and LSG have played magnificent brands of cricket and both are very much in contention for the playoffs. The Hyderabad-based franchise has revolutionised the batting in the league while Lucknow has been consistent as always in the league.

Currently, SRH is at No.4 on the points table with 6 wins and 5 defeats from the 11 games. They have 12 points under their belt. On the other hand, LSG is 6th on the points table with the same number of wins and defeats in 11 games. But what separates them is their NRR.

Both SRH and LSG will be entering the game on the back of defeats. While the Pat Cummins-led side suffered a thrashing 7-wicket loss against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium, the KL Rahul-led side were hammered by 98 runs by Kolkata Knight Riders at their home ground.

Both SRH and LSG will be desperate for the win in the match. A win there for both teams will strengthen their position in the points table. However, a loss might hamper their chances, especially with the kind of competition that has been there in the league.

IPL 2024: Who are the impact players nominated by SRH and LSH for match 57 of IPL 2024

Lucknow Super Giants skipper KL Rahul won the toss and opted to bat first in the game against SRH. The skipper admitted that it’s an important game for both teams and claimed that they will be focused on one thing at a time. Speaking at the toss, he stated:

“We will bat first. That plus a couple of games that have been played here. It is hard to complete forget how important this game for both the sides, but we have played enough cricket. We will focus one thing at a time, bat first and put up the runs on the board. Playing at home becomes a difference, but we play so much cricket that we know how the conditions will be. Quinton comes in, Mohsin misses out and there are a few other changes.”

Pat Cummins on the other hand also expressed his desire to bat first in the game against LSG. He also spoke about the importance of the game and stated:

“Thank You (for the birthday wishes). My body feels 31. We would have batted as well. But we have won both ways here and hence not too upset. Hard to know (a good score) as it has been pretty high scoring. It is pretty tough (to qualify for the playoffs) and you have to keep winning till the end, we have not nailed it in the last couple of games and it is time to change that. We have a couple of changes - Sanvir comes in for Agarwal and Viyaskanth makes his debut and replaces Marco.”
