Former Pakistan cricketer Wasim Akram talked about the future of Rohit Sharma with Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. He believes that the India captain might leave the franchise after the ongoing season of the league.

Mumbai Indians batter Rohit Sharma is the most talked about player in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The opening batter ahead of the league was removed as the skipper of the team and it came as a surprise to many because he had guided the team to five titles.

Mumbai Indians in a social media post announced that Rohit Sharma won't be captaining the team and they announced Hardik Pandya as the captain of the team. The all-rounder was traded to the franchise after he led Gujarat Titans for two seasons in the league.

Rohit Sharma getting removed in the way he was didn't go well with many. Many fans and experts lashed out at the Mumbai Indians for the way they treated the senior opener. He also guided the team to the playoffs with the weak bowling lineup.

There were even reports claiming that Rohit Sharma would be leaving the Mumbai Indians after the IPL 2024. The reports added that he will be entering the IPL 2025 auction, which will be a mega auction.

Wasim Akram feels that Rohit Sharma will be leaving Mumbai Indians and expressed his desire to see the opening batter playing for Kolkata Knight Riders. He believes that Rohit playing under Gautam Gambhir and Shreyas Iyer will be a great thing. Speaking to Sportskeeda, he explained:

"I have a feeling, he won't be at Mumbai Indians next season. I would love to see him at KKR. Imagine him open there, Gauti as a mentor, Iyer as a captain. They will have a very strong batting, at that wicket (Eden Gardens). He bats very well on any wicket, he is that great a player."

In the ongoing IPL 2024, Rohit Sharma looked in staggering touch in the first half of the season. However, in the last few games of the tournament, he has struggled to get going and has scored just 33 runs in the last five innings.
