David Warner, the skipper of SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH), has revealed as to why he chose young Indian all-rounder Abdul Samad to bowl the final over against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). On Matchday 14 of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020), SunRisers Hyderabad beat CSK by 7 runs as they grabbed their second win of IPL 2020.

One of the turning moments of the game came in the 19th over of the second innings, when Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the leader of SRH’s pace attack suffered an injury while trying to bowl the second ball of the over. He couldn’t bowl any further and David Warner had a decision to make as to who would complete Bhuvneshwar’s over. Warner eventually went with the risk of giving the leftover 5 balls to Khaleel Ahmed and going with the young Abdul Samad in the final over.

David Warner said, “I backed him (Samad) – I had no option. We tried to kill the game in the 19th over with Khaleel there with five balls to bowl. Could have given it to Abhishek, but Samad with his height and the way he bowled tonight, he had to bowl the last one.”

“This was a little better as compared to the last one. It was quite challenging, it’s good to see swing upfront. It’s my message to the youngsters, to go out there and score some runs,” Warner added.

Our Execution Has Been Spot-On: David Warner

“These guys assessed the conditions and played well, so really really proud of them. These guys really work hard, they execute their yorkers, they execute their slower ones. These are the rewards we are getting, and hopefully, we get the momentum going forward,” David Warner further stated.

This was SRH’s second win in their fourth game in the competition and they have now moved to the 4th spot in the IPL 2020 points table. As for Chennai Super Kings, their fortune seems to have faded away in this year’s IPL as they have managed to win only one out of the 4 games that they have played so far and are on the bottom of the IPL 2020 points table.
