Kings XI Punjab opener Mayank Agarwal has finally revealed the reason behind not being sent out to bat in the super over against Delhi Capitals. Kings XI Punjab suffered a narrow defeat at the hands of their Delhi counterpart in their first game of IPL 2020.

After both the teams finished their innings on 157, the match was decided by the super over. In the super over, Kings XI Punjab failed miserably as they managed just two runs before Delhi Capitals won the game without any trouble whatsoever. Kagiso Rabada was the star in the super over as he dismissed KL Rahul and Nicholas Pooran on consecutive deliveries.

Following the game, there were questions raised over Kings XI Punjab team-management’s decision of not sending a well-set Mayank Agarwal to bat. The right-handed batsman had starred with the bat earlier in the match and nearly took the side over the line.

Kings XI Punjab were reeling at 55 for 5 at one stage before the India Test opener played a fine knock of 89 off 60 balls with the help of seven fours and four sixes. He batted till the last over of the match and was thus expected to come out to bat in the super over.

And ahead of the game against Royal Challengers Bangalore, he has revealed the reason behind not coming out to bat. The opener revealed that he was tired and was having cramps and thus decided against going out to bat again.

“I was tired and having cramps when I returned to the dugout after completing my innings. If I had to run a lot in the super over, it wouldn’t have been possible. That’s why I held back in the Super Over,” he told Star Sports.
