Jason Roy: It Was 'Heartbreaking' To Lose Test Spot After All Hard-Work

Jason Roy expressed his grief for not being able to replicate his limited-overs form in Test cricket. Roy has contributed to the fore for his national team in the ODIs. He scored 443 runs at an average of 63.28 in England’s 2019 World Cup triumph. It helped him earn a call-up in the England Test squad for the series against Ireland and the Ashes.

However, the longest format, saw a dip in his form as the top-order batsman managed to score at an average of partly 18.7 and subsequently lost his place. In the 10 innings, Jason Roy, managed to notch up the high score of 72 which was also his lone half-century in the format. His techniques was well exposed and he came into the radar for his under-performance.

Jason Roy: I worked hard, it was really heartbreaking to lose spot

Jason Roy said he worked really hard to earn a place in the purest format. But having lost it in no time, came as a real heartbreak for him. However, Roy asserted, that he is working hard to make a comeback in Test and feels he can fight to earn his position back in the squad. He wants to prove himself as a Test batsman as well.

“I worked very hard to crack the nut in Test cricket and for it to get taken away that quickly was really heartbreaking,” Roy was quoted as saying by BBC Sport. “I’m going to be trying my hardest to get back into the side.”

“Scoring the weight of runs in white-ball cricket and then not being able to do that in Test cricket was upsetting for me, because I really felt like I could,” said Roy.

“I still feel like I can, but I need to fight for my position again, get back in there and prove to myself that I can actually do it. I definitely have the hunger to play.”

Roy has played 87 ODIs for England. He has scored 3434 runs at an average of 42.39.
