Earlier this year, Kapil Dev, Shantha Rangaswamy and Anshuman Gaekwad had resigned from the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC). However, the BCCI Ethics Officer DK Jain has asked the trio to appear before them in Mumbai on December 27 and 28 to provide an explanation on the conflict of interest allegations.

Dev, Rangaswamy, and Gaekwad had surrendered their position post receiving their conflict of interest notices from DK Jain in the month of September. Their resignation came on the backdrop of a grievance expressed by Sanjeev Gupta, who is the life member of the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA).

Though there exists no CAC currently, the trio have still been asked to summon to depose themselves in person. In the wake of them stepping down, the officer has requested from them some clarifications. The CAC has overseen the appointment of the men’s and women’s head coach.

“Though they have stepped down, the ethics officer has sought some clarifications from them,” A source of BCCI said as quoted by India Today.

Anshuman Gaikwad responded positively by saying that even though he has explained once in writing, he would clarify the same in person by meeting them. Along with the three of them, a BCCI employee, Mayank Parikh also faces a conflict of charges and has been asked to make his presence felt. He is also concerned with multiple clubs and possesses voting rights.

“Yes, I will meet the ethics officer and explain my point of view once again, as I had in my written reply to him earlier. The Committee of Administrators had approved our appointment (in CAC) only after being convinced that there was no conflict,” Gaekwad stated.

Conflict of charges explained:

The conflict of charges is one of the severe issues encircling the Indian cricket. As per the existing constitution of the BCCI, one person is not in power to hold more than one position. Besides being on the CAC, the 1983 World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev was a commentator, owner of a floodlight company, and the director of Indian Cricketers’ Assocation. Likewise, Anshuman Gaekwad was conflicted since he owns an academy and is part of the BCCI Affiliation Committee.
