Shoaib Akhtar was involved in a hilarious banter with Kevin Pietersen on Twitter after the former urged Pakistan to bounce back from the defeat in their World Cup-opener. Pakistan lost to West Indies by seven wickets to start their campaign on a dismal note.

West Indies thoroughly outplayed the Men in Green to start their World Cup on a stunning note. It took them less than 22 overs to bowl out Pakistan and less than 14 overs to chase down the paltry total of 106. West Indies’ ploy of targeting Pakistan batsmen with short stuff paid rich dividends.  Fast bowler Oshane Thomas took four wickets as Pakistan were bundled out for their second-lowest World Cup total of 105 in just 21.4 overs.

In reply, West Indies cruised to victory in just 13.4 overs, with Chris Gayle top-scoring with 50. He reached his half-century off 33 balls with three sixes and six fours before he was dismissed off the next ball he faced. Highly-rated Nicolas Pooran then smashed Wahab Riaz for a huge six over the square-leg boundary to give his side a stunning start. For Pakistan, the only positive was three wickets for pacer Mohammad Amir who has struggled since his heroics in the 2017 Champions Trophy final.

And in order to motivate his teammates, Shoaib Akhtar took to Twitter to post a picture of his playing days where he could be seen celebrating after dismissing Pietersen.

“Blood, sweat, aggression, racing heartbeat, badmaashi. This is whats required when you represent your country. This star on your chest is your pride guys. Tagra khelo. Go get them. Larr jao,” wrote Shoaib Akhtar.

Well, Pietersen was having none of it as he reminded Akhtar of his batting before the dismissal, writing:

“Can’t argue with that tweet buddy as you’re celebrating after I smacked you all over for a 100…! Great passion! ?”

Akhtar then admitted that dismissing Pietersen was tough but once again cherished the dismissal, replying:

“Mate you were a true force to reckon with but loved my chicken dance after getting u out ..??”
