Kings XI Punjab To Make Captaincy Announcement today?

Kings XI Punjab are expected to follow the footsteps of Rajasthan Royals in the upcoming IPL season.

The franchise is expected to announce its captain for the season in a unique way, just like Rajasthan Royals did.

The Rajasthan based franchise announced its captain in a televised ceremony, where Shane Warne announced Steven Smith as the captain.

Though, the medium followed by Kings XI Punjab will be different.

The franchise will announce its captain on social media, and the announcement might be made by the franchise’s Head of Cricket Operation and Mentor, Virender Sehwag.

The indication for this was given by franchise itself –

Yuvraj Singh, Aaron Finch, and R Ashwin are the front-runners for the job.

Keeping the experience of Manoj Tiwary as the captain of Bengal, he is also one of the candidates for the job but might not win the race.

First talking of Yuvraj, he is on the top of the list to lead the team.

He has also led the same franchise in the past.

Though, he might not be interested in taking up the job as captaincy might have an impact on his batting too.

He is also not in best of form and was sold at his base price, i.e., Rs 2 Crore.

Secon player on the list is Finch, who has led Australia in limited overs format.

He will miss a couple of games at the start, which might see him not been given the job as a franchise would not like to kick off the season with the captain who will be absent.

Third and strongest contender on the list is R Ashwin.

The former team, India’s Test vice-captain, hasn’t led any IPL team in the past.

His experience will come handy, and he is the strongest candidate to be given the job.

As mentioned, Manoj Tiwary’s captaincy credentials might work in his favor.

He has also led India A in the past.

It will be interesting to see whether Tiwary will be given the job or not.
