In a recent development, it has been revealed through reliable sources that leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal will not be a part of India's T20 World Cup squad 2024.

The mega event and this year's only major ICC tournament will be starting from June 1 onwards with USA and West Indies co-hosting a WC for the first time. There's plenty of buzz going around for the T20 World Cup and most of that buzz can be felt in the 2024 Indian Premier League edition.

What can Yuzvendra Chahal do to get selected?

Every player that is participating in the 17th edition, whether homegrown or foreign, is fighting for a spot in their respective National teams. But the hype around the Indian team is unmatched.

Every single IPL 2024 match is almost like an audition of Indian players be it contracted players like Jadeja, Kohli, and Bumrah or outcast players like Yuzvendra Chahal, Ishan Kishan, and Shreyas Iyer.

And one such report about the 15-man Indian squad set to be led by Rohit Sharma has indicated that Yuzvendra Chahal's case for the T20 World Cup is closed. Despite being the joint highest wicket-taker of IPL 2024 with a month's action still left, Chahal is unlikely to even get picked as a backup spinner.

Yuzvendra Chahal has the same wickets as premium MI pacer Jasprit Bumrah and Punjab's Harshal Patel. The 33-year-old also holds several number of records to his name.

He is the highest wicket-taker of team India in the shortest format of the game. Very recently against Mumbai Indians, Chahal became the first bowler to scalp 200 wickets in the cash-laden Premier League.

Those 200 wickets came in less than 160 appearances in the IPL for Yuzvendra Chahal, who has been a key component for the Rajasthan Royals this season.

His contribution is among the reasons why the Royals are on top of the points table and are also being considered as title favorites. But the question that Chahal will be asking himself will be - "What else can I do to get selected?"

Who will be India's spinner for the World Cup?

According to the provisional 10-man squad list that came out a couple of weeks ago, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja are inevitably going to get selected.

Thus a wrist spinner and a finger spinner are already on the team. In the pace front, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Arshdeep Singh will be included as well.

For the 6th bowling option, which will be a backup to the above-mentioned names, Avesh Khan, Axar Patel, and Ravi Bishnoi will fight it out for a spot. Bishnoi, who is the No. 6 T20I bowler in the ICC rankings, will not be an automatic choice and so will be the reliable Delhi Capitals all-rounder Axar Patel.

When will the selection committee announce India's squad?

The Indian chief selection committee is most likely to announce India's squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 by the start of next month. The 15-man squad is expected to come out in the first two weeks of May.
