Veteran wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni is more than unlikely to return to the team for the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh. MS Dhoni has not played any competitive since the end of the World Cup. As soon as the tournament got over, he took a sabbatical from the game and is yet to return to action.

He recently started his training in Ranchi with Jharkhand’s U-23 team but is unlikely to return to action soon. And if reports are to be believed then MS Dhoni will not be seen in action before January 2020. The wicketkeeper-batsman will not only miss the series against Bangladesh but also the one against West Indies in December.

As per reports in The Indian Express, MS Dhoni is likely to return to action during the series against Sri Lanka at home in January. Sri Lanka will visit India in January to play three T20Is before Australia make a short tour of the country in the same month for three ODIs. India will then fly to New Zealand for a long tour comprising T20Is, ODIs and Tests.

The report added that if Dhoni misses the Sri Lanka series, he will play the T20I series in New Zealand in order to prepare himself for next year’s T20 Wold Cup in Australia. A source said that Dhoni is likely to focus only on the shortest format of the game and has the T20 World Cup in sight.

“He is preparing himself for the World T20 scheduled in Australia from October 18 to November 15. He might prefer the shortest format in days to come and will definitely play for Chennai Super Kings in IPL next year, the source said.

Meanwhile, newly-elected BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has said that he would talk to the selectors as well as MS Dhoni over his future.
