While every captain has a different approach on the field, India fast-bowler Deepak Chahar believes MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma have similar captaincy styles. The fast-bowler has played under the captaincy of both. While he is playing under MS Dhoni in the IPL, he has played under Rohit Sharma when the opener leads the national team in absence of regular captain Virat Kohli.

The Rajasthan star said that both the senior players helped him flourish as a fast bowler at the international level. He said both MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma keep their calm on the field and try to bring the best out of their players. Deepak Chahar first made a name for himself while playing for Chennai Super Kings under Dhoni.

He then made his India debut in 2018 under Virat Kohli but enjoyed his most prolific series last year when Rohit Sharma was leading the team against Bangladesh. The right-arm pacer took 8 wickets in three games to help India win the T20I series 2-1 after losing the series-opener.

“Everybody has their own styles. When you talk about aggression, Virat Kohli is an aggressive captain. When you talk about Rohit bhai and Mahi bhai, both of them are similar when it comes to being cool on the field,” Deepak Chahar told SportsTak.

“They don’t get angry easily. They both try to get the best out of the players.

“MS Dhoni is a wicketkeeper. He can come and give your advice even in the middle of an over. Rohit fields at mid-off, most times. He also trusts the bowlers. He sometimes allows me to go ahead with my own field.

“On the other hand, Mahi bhai knows where the batsman is strong and where he is not. He is vastly experienced. So he sets the field based on that,” he added.

He further pointed out the difference between the captaincy of Dhoni and Rohit. Deepak Chahar said that while Dhoni believes in not changing things too much if he finds a winning formula, Rohitdoes not shy away from making changes.

“There are some differences between them, considering their experience.

“But I have enjoyed playing under both of them. Rohit has shown a lot of faith in me. My career can be attributed to Mahi bhai. He has shown a lot of trust in me.

“In T20s, I noticed one thing. Mahi bhai makes very little changes. When it comes to team selection, he makes few changes. If he has worked out a formula, he wants to carry it forward to the next matches.

“Rohit bhai likes to make changes. If you look at it, he sometimes uses 6 bowlers for 6 overs in powerplays. He trusts in unsettling the batsmen. This is one difference I find between them.

“But if you look at the larger picture, there are similarities between the both of them,” Deepak Chahar said.
