Board of Control For Cricket in India (BCCI) have gone against pay-cut of the Indian cricketers amid the Covid-19 crisis. There have been reports which suggested that the cricket board might impose pay-cut for their cricketers if the lucrative IPL 2020 is called-off. However, a fresh segment of reports, have denied any such claims as BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal has suggested that the players pay-cut would be the last thing to do as the board is looking to curtail other expenses.

The fate of the mega-hit IPL still remains undecided. The tournament was slated to get underway from March 29 but then had been deferred to April 15 in the wake of Covid-19. Later the board had decided to postpone the tournament indefinitely with the July and October slot still open. If the IPL 2020 gets called-off the board can incur loss of a massive Rs.4000 crore board president Sourav Ganguly had suggested recently.

We are not discussing a pay cut as of now: BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal

BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal has said the board is not discussing about pay cut for Indian cricketers now. He also said IPL being called-off will be a big loss and that can be thought over later but players fee cut is the last thing the board will resort to. Dhumal, however, said the board is thinking other ways to curtail loss.

“We are not discussing a pay cut as of now. We are hoping that despite the financial crisis we will be able to tide over it. But yes IPL would be a big revenue loss to BCCI, when a situation comes then we will think about it but that would be the last thing. In that case, we would resort to in terms of players fee cut at all. Ideally, we somehow want to manage it without going for that cutting option,” Dhumal told ANI.

Dhumal also said the decision to resume season will be taken in regard to lockdown.
