Ravichandran Ashwin equaled the Test record set by Sri Lanka legend Muttiah Muralitharan of being the fastest bowler to reach 350 wickets. Muralitharan had bowled 3605.2 overs to take his 350th Test wicket, but Ashwin, on the other hand, has proved to be quicker, having taken just 3109.1 overs to send de Bruyn back to the pavilion. However, the Sri Lanka legend has the edge over Ashwin in all other aspects of bowling like the average, economy and runs conceded.

AB de Villiers wicket in Nagpur is special – Ravichandran Ashwin

Speaking of the same, Ravichandran Ashwin quoted that he would like to put things simple, which yielded success to his over the years. Further, the flamboyant cricketer revealed his favorite dismissals off those 350 wickets. He picked his first wicket Darren Bravo and the wickets of David Warner and AB de Villiers as special dismissals.

“Obviously these things happen over a period of time and you can’t plan these things. I have been very lucky in terms of where I have got in my career in terms of racing up with all these records. It’s important to stick to the process every single day, try and stick to the basics, keep it as simple as possible because that’s what makes it easier for you every time you get in the next game,” he said.

“There have been a lot of special wickets. I will just pick a few. Probably, my first Test wicket of Darren Bravo will always be special. I have dismissed David Warner a few times. But, I would say amongst the 350 I have taken so far, Warner’s wicket in Bangalore on Day 2 morning is one of the special. Not to forget the AB de Villiers’ wicket in Nagpur in 2015,” he concluded.

It was indeed a special game for Ravichandran Ashwin. He bagged his 27th five-wicket haul in his Test career and shut all the critics against him. And also, he proved why the team management must rely on him at least in Asian conditions.
