England fast-bowler Stuart Broad has opened up on the ugly spat that took place between him and Ben Stokes on field during the first Test against South Africa in Centurion. The incident took place on day three of the ongoing first Test against South Africa in Centurion. With things not going England’s way on the field, the two teammates could not help but have a go at each other.

Both the players looked frustrated and exchanged words in what appeared to be a heated disagreement in a team huddle after a South African wicket fell. It looked like Ben Stokes was the one who started the exchange before Stuart Broad retaliated. Skipper Joe Root was telling something to his teammates before Ben Stokes made a comment in an animated manner.

He was then walking away from the huddle before turning back and giving a piece of his mind to Stuart Broad. The veteran pacer then hit it back at Ben Stokes before the latter walked away from the huddle in an angry manner. England had gone on to lose the game before winning the second one to draw level in the three-match series.

The discussion:

Almost a fortnight after that spat, Stuart Broad has opened up about the incident and revealed the details. Speaking to the Daily Mail, Stuart Broad revealed what and Stokes told each other during the heated discussion in Centurion.

“We got a wicket and in the huddle afterwards, I said ‘Boys, I think we can up our standards out here, bowlers can hit the lengths harder, fielders can stop the ones, they’re on top of us with their energy’ Stokesy went ‘I don’t agree with you. ‘Which is great. You don’t want yes men, do you?’,” said Stuart Broad.

‘He (Stokers) said “I don’t agree with you, I think we’ve been good”. I said: “Fair enough, it’s just my opinion but I don’t think we’ve been very good”. And we had a bit of back and forth like that. I really liked that. A couple of minutes later he walked over and gave me a big fist pump and he even texted me that night saying something like “Sorry, mate, for that disagreement”,” added Stokes.
