Stuart Law, on Monday, announced his decision to step down as West Indies’ head coach. The former Australia cricketer will end his association with the Caribbean outfit after their cricket tours of India and Bangladesh.

Law took charge of the West Indies team  in January last year. Under his guidance, West Indies fortunes improved in Tests.  Under Law, the West Indies won Test series against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh. They also won their first Test in England in 17 years when they chased down 322 at Headingley last year.

The two-time world champions also qualified for next year’s World Cup after finishing this year’s Qualifiers as runners-up. They, however, failed to qualify for the Champions Trophy.

Overall, he oversaw West Indies across 32 Tests, nine of which ending in victories, and 19 T20Is with eight wins.

Law announced his resignation, saying he’s going to take charge of Middlesex in England from January on a four-year contract to be closer to his family.

“I have had to make the difficult decision to leave my role of head coach with CWI,” Law said in a statement released by Cricket West Indies. “It has been very enjoyable, and I believe we have made tremendous strides forward as a team during the past two years.”

Johnny Grave, the CWI chief executive, said he was disappointed with the resignation.

“I am disappointed that Stuart is leaving as I believe that we have made real progress under his leadership. I know it was a difficult decision for him and that ultimately the opportunity to work in England, where his family is now based, was a major factor in his decision. We will start the process to appoint a new Head Coach immediately,” said Grave.

Meanwhile, West Indies’ next assignment is the tough tour of India, starting with the first Test from October 4. They will play two Tests, five ODIs and three T20Is.
