Arguably the most destructive batsman during his prime, Virender Sehwag rates Virat Kohli and his style of captaincy pretty highly. The former opener also considered Kohli as one of the best Indian captains till date.

The visitors have already won the six-match One-day International series against the Proteas.  India has played some exceptional brand of cricket in the process.

Kohli has been leading from the front across all three formats and it was no different this time around too. He was the only batsman to score a century in the Test series. However, India lost three-match by a 2-1 margin and

Moreover, Virat Kohli has already smashed a couple of centuries in the ODI series so far.

However, despite his credentials, Sehwag refused to compare him with former captains of India.  The former believed that there is still a long way to go for Kohli.

Kohli has been a prolific run scorer across formats and especially after taking up the mantle from Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He has raised his standard to a whole new level. 34 ODI centuries in just 207 ODI’s is something extraordinary.

While speaking to India Today, Virender Sehwag called Kohli as the upgraded version of former skipper Sourav Ganguly.

“Kohli’s aggression can be compared with Ganguly. In fact, he is an upgraded version of Sourav Ganguly. Under Ganguly’s captaincy, we saw some incredible wins overseas and such has been the trend so far with Virat Kohli,” Sehwag said.

“Kohli is the No.1 captain in terms of series wins. If we analyse the past eight series wins under his captaincy, we’ll find that he is one of the best captains we have ever seen. Having said that, I believe that we should not compare him with the best of previous captains. He needs more time and experience as captain to reach where the past skippers are,” Sehwag asserted.

Responsibility from Virat Kohli key to success:

He also stated that the extra responsibility of captaincy has helped Kohli take his game to a whole new level, “He has gained confidence with the captaincy. Unlike others, he has matured and has taken his individual game to the next level. He doesn’t take the pressure of captaincy. In fact, he has improved his game with the responsibility. He has brought the trend of fitness in the camp,” he signed off.
