IND vs SL: Watch - Mohammed Shami Strikes With First Ball, Bowls Dimuth Karunaratne Through The Gate

Indian pace bowler Mohammed Shami broke through with his very first ball of the pink-ball Test against Sri Lanka that got underway at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday.

After India had put on 252 on the board courtesy of a Shreyas Iyer masterclass with the bat, the Lankans had the tough task of playing under the lights against two of India’s best seamers.

Jasprit Bumrah struck twice first – taking out Kusal Mendis in his second over before getting Lahiru Thirimanne in his third over. Both were catches that Shreyas Iyer held on to in the slips.

Rohit Sharma started off the attack with Ravichandran Ashwin to accompany Bumrah. However, once they realized there was no turn at the time, Shami was called on and he delivered with his very first delivery.

Shami landed one right in the good length zone outside off with serious zip on it. Karunaratne was unable to deal with the pace and he had a big gap between bat and pad, more than enough for the ball to go through and knock the off-stump.

Earlier, Iyer put on a batting masterclass on a turning track in Bengaluru. He hung around with the lower-order and scored at a brisk pace. Iyer fell just eight runs short of his second Test century but nevertheless, had put India in the driver’s seat.
