Such has been the impact of MS Dhoni on Virat Kohli’s captaincy that even Australia opener David Warner had stated that the former India skippers was nurturing his successor.

“MS Dhoni brought a sense of calmness to his captaincy. He did a great job as captain and he is still doing a great job, nurturing Virat and that is a great thing to do for a former captain.  He is nurturing Virat and that is a good thing to do for both men,” Warner was quoted as saying by India Today.

Kohli, who had taken the  Test captaincy a couple of years ago, replaced MS Dhoni as the limited-overs captain earlier this year and has looked at ease in his role right from day one as he led India to series wins over England, West Indies, Sri Lanka in addition to leading the Men in Blue to the final of the Champions Trophy. And one can say that Dhoni has played an integral role in Kohli’s seamless transition from player to captain. From changing fielders, bowlers to DRS calls, Dhoni has been seen advising Kohli on almost all the matters and a similar incident was witnessed in the ongoing fourth One-Day International against Australia.

With David Warner going great guns, Team India were having a hard time. The southpaw had already raced to 53 before Dhoni was seen saying something to Kohli. Afterwards, Kohli was seen waving his hands to the long-on fielder and one ball later, Warner ended up hitting straight to Manish Pandey at long-on.

Watch as Kohli changes the field on Dhoni’s advise.
