Punjab Kings haven’t got their campaign moving forward in this edition and they have a lot of work to do with their auction strategies if the mega auction takes place. They seem to lack quality all-rounders in the team and their inexperienced finishers are not going to reliable all the time.

Punjab picked up two Australian quicks Jhye Richardson and Riley Meredith for a combined price of 22 crores and both were dropped after the first three games have made no impact in the game. Mohammed Shami:

Mohammed Shami had done really well for the franchise last year and he deserves to be in the squad. Punjab Kings haven’t got many Indian experienced bowlers in their armoury and Shami should be their primary target to be retained through the RTM card. Shami’s T20 skills was always a question mark but he has shown that he can deliver.

Shami had a decent IPL 2021 picking up 8 wickets in the 8 games but he wasn’t effective as he was in the previous edition in the powerplay and the death overs. He is coming back from an injury which could have been a reason but he is capable of offering more to the team and Punjab should have no doubts in regaining him through an RTM card.

Riley Meredith:

Riley Meredith was very expensive in the first three games he played and he was deployed as middle overs bowler when the batsman was already set. He was brought back into the team in the game against the RCB franchise and he repaid the faith shown by picking up the important wicket of Devdutt Padikkal in the powerplay.

He bowled a brilliant opening spell and clocked very high speeds making it really uncomfortable for the batsman. His raw pace at the right lengths should be the template for him in the coming years and he can be groomed into an excellent fast bowler in the future. Punjab Kings could get his services back in the mega auction through the RTM card.

Ravi Bishnoi:

Among all the Punjab bowlers, Ravi Bishnoi was the only bowler to stop the flow of runs at one end and keep taking regular wickets this season. The leg spinner wasn’t in the playing XI for the first few games and then when he was brought into the team, he had an immediate impact on the franchise.

Bishnoi is more of a googly bowler and his leg-spin delivery has become the stop ball. His variations have been really good and he was very impressive in his debut IPL season last year. He is going to play a huge part in the IPL teams and Punjab Kings might be tempted to retain him in the mega auction through the RTM card.
