T20 World Cup 2021: 3 Teams Which Can Change Their Captain Ahead Of The Tournament

The T20 World Cup 2021 is scheduled to take place this year in the month of October this year and the excitement over the big tournament among the teams has been already of the highest order. Recently, the tournament was shifted from India to UAE by the BCCI owing to the pandemic reasons in the country.

The teams have been preparing well for the tournament with a lot of international matches and the managements would have decided their captains by now for the T20 Worldcup.

However, there is enough time to still make some changes in the captaincy for the nations, and here are 3 teams that can change their captain ahead of the tournament.

3 Teams Which Can Change Their Captain Ahead Of The Tournament:

Bangladesh has gone in with three different captains in three formats and it might not be the best option ahead of a big tournament like ICC T20 World Cup. The current T20 captain of the side is all-rounder Mahmudullah who is one of the better batsmen in the squad but his record as a captain has been far from impressive.

In 14 T20 internationals as captain, Mahmudullah has just won four of those matches and lost 10 matches which are not going to serve the nation in the big event. With the likes of Tamil Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan having a lot more exposure around the globe, Bangladesh could go in with their ODI captain Tamil Iqbal to do the job.

Afghanistan:

Afghanistan appointed the sensational leg spinner Rashid Khan as the captain of the T20I side last year but he recently stepped down from the captaincy as he feared that his performances could be affected by the captaincy stint ahead of the T20 Worldcup.

As of now, Afghanistan is yet to announce a new T20 captain and the veteran Asghar Afghan has been leading the T20 side. It will be down to the management to decide on a new captain as there isn’t much time left for the T20 Worldcup and Mohammad Nabi with his experience would be ideal for the job until this tournament.

Pakistan will be captained by Babar Azam for the T20 Worldcup as of now and he has been leading the tournament in all three formats. Babar Azam has captained the side in 21 T20 internationals winning 13 of those games and lost six of those games. He is ranked third in the ICC T20 rankings at the moment and averages nearly 50 in the format.

Babar is one of the best T20 players in the world at the moment and he would like to offer a lot more for the side through his batting rather than captaincy. The 26-year-old should be allowed to play with a lot of freedom and veterans like Mohammad Hafeez, or Shoaib Malik could be handed over the captaincy of the side with their experience in the format.
