T20 World Cup 2021: They'll Be Considered Joint Second-Favorites Along With Us - Eoin Morgan On Australian Team

England skipper Eoin Morgan pointed out that the Australian team is performing really well at the moment, and they’re joint second-favourites to win the ongoing T20 World Cup in the UAE.

Morgan and co. will face their arch-rivals in tonight’s crucial match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Both teams are undefeated in the tournament so far, winning two games each. While Australia had a minor hiccup in the first win against South Africa, they put on a clinical display against Sri Lanka.

As for England, they brushed aside both West Indies and Bangladesh with aplomb, cruising to comfortable victories in both games. Now that the two best-performing teams of Group 1 go against each other, sparks are expected to fly.

“It’s probably going to be one of our most difficult games. Australia are a very strong side – they’ve won two out of two, much like us – and have started well. Coming into the tournament, they’ll probably be considered joint second favorites, along with us. They’re a side that we know pretty well – we’ve played against them a lot over a number of years,” Morgan said in a chat with SkySports.

Eoin Morgan also revealed that the injured seamers, Mark Wood and Tom Curran, are making steady progress towards full recovery. Morgan said that a final decision will be taken on their availability after seeing how their training session goes.

“They’re progressing really well. Where we were before the first game, they’ve come on a long way. We’re going to make a call on that tomorrow to see how training is and then tomorrow we’ll make a call on them,” Morgan added.

A win for either side tonight will likely confirm one of the semifinalists in the group. However, T20 is a fickle format, and anything can happen, so as of now, all teams are in with a chance.
