T20 World Cup 2021: We Executed Our Plans Well, Have Confidence To Build On Now - Babar Azam

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam was elated after leading his side to their first-ever win over arch-rivals, India, in the history of World Cups. It was a dominating performance from the Men in Green, inflicting a 10-wicket defeat on the hapless Indians.

It was Pakistan’s bowlers who did a fabulous job in the first innings with the ball. They restricted India to 152/7, which was below-par for a decent batting track. Babar and Mohammad Rizwan scored wonderful fifties and took their team home without losing a wicket.

“We executed our plans well and the early wickets were very helpful. Shaheen’s wickets gave us a lot of confidence and the spinners dominated as well. The plan with Rizwan is always to keep it simple. We tried to get deep in the crease and from about the 8th over the dew came in and the ball came on nicely. This is just the start, we have the confidence to build on now,” Babar said during the post-match presentation ceremony.

The 27-year-old Babar Azam downplayed the pressure on his side going into the match against India. He was confident of his side’s abilities and they responded in kind. A 10-wicket victory over any side is massive, let alone doing it against the favorites for the tournament.

“It will remain match by match for us. The pressure on us wasn’t that much – we weren’t thinking of the record against India at all. I only wanted to back all our players who’ve been preparing well. When you play tournaments before a big World Cup, it helps and our players came in with a lot of confidence because of that,” Babar concluded.

The win sets things up perfectly for Pakistan, who now head into the match against New Zealand high on confidence. As for India, there is a lot of soul searching to be done before their next game.
