Team Indi made yet another exit from an ICC event after losing out in the semi-final. England beat India by 10 wickets in theT20 World Cup 2022 semi-final to knock them out of the tournament. This was India’s second 10-wicket loss in T20 World Cups after Pakistan beat India by 10 wickets in 2021.

India scored 168/ in their 20 overs against England in the semi-final. Fifties from Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya took India to that score. The total turned out to be below-par in the manner in which Alex Hales (86*) and Jos Buttler (88*) batted in the game.

The wicket eased out in the second innings and batting became much easier with the ball skidding onto the bat. None of the Indian bowlers were able to extract anything off the wicket and there was no swing as well. Four of the six Indian bowlers went for an economy of above 10. Mohammed Shami and Ravichandran Ashwin went for an economy of over 13.

Speaking to Sportskeeda, Robin Uthappa spoke about how the Indian team were sceptical about their bowling resources in the final. None of the Indian batters managed to beat the bat of the England openers in the semi-final.

“When we were going to Australia, we did not have a lot of confidence in our bowling. (Jasprit) Bumrah wasn’t there, Bhuvi (Bhuvneshwar Kumar) wasn’t bowling well at the death, Harshal (Patel) was struggling at the death. (Mohammed) Shami was coming back after a year. (Ravichandran) Ashwin and (Yuzvendra) Chahal’s form was also not good,” Uthappa said.

Uthappa further said that the Indian bowlers bowled well leading up to the semifinal and had an off day in the semis. He also said that India was timid with both bat and ball in the game.

“India were successful because they bowled so well. The only reason we didn’t win the semis was because our bowling had an off day. It was a timid kind of effort with bat and ball.”

Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif said that there were a lot of mistakes from the Indian side and the spinners did not make an impact in any of the big games. He also questioned the absence of Yuzvendra Chahal throughout the tournament.

“There were question marks over India’s spinners. There were doubts that they would get found out somewhere. In big matches, they proved ineffective. There was no turn and the finger spinners in Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel could not make an impact. India did not play a leg-spinner (Chahal). We made a lot of mistakes,” Kaif said.

Ravichandran Ashwin took six wickets from five games at an average of 25.83, while Axar Patel took just three from five games at 23.81.
