The 23-year-old India National Cricket Team left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh has said that the credit for his success with the new ball in T20Is goes to the veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Arshdeep, who was looked at as the death overs specialist in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has been highly effective with the new ball for the Indian team. In the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, Arshdeep Singh has picked crucial wickets for the Men In Blue with the new ball.

In the game against Pakistan in Melbourne, Arshdeep dismissed Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan inside the powerplay while he cleaned up Rilee Rossouw and Quinton de Kock in his first over in the South Africa clash in Perth.

Meanwhile, Arshdeep Singh has said that his new-ball partner, Bhuvneshwar, has been creating relentless pressure on the batters in powerplay overs which has made it easier for him to bag the wickets.

“We study the batters’ weaknesses and myself and Bhuvi bhai try to get some swing first up and beat the batter at start. I’m able to attack the batter because Bhuvi bhai is bowling so economically that the batter is already under pressure,” Arshdeep told reporters after India’s five-wicket defeat to South Africa on Sunday.

“Credit for my success goes to him. The batters aren’t taking chances against him (Bhuvneshwar) and are doing that with me. So we have forged a good partnership. A bowling partnership is as important as batting partnership,” Arshdeep added.

In the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, Arshdeep has picked up 7 wickets in three matches at an economy rate of 7.83. Also, Bhuvneshwar has bagged 3 wickets in three matches at an economy rate of 4.87.

It was a dream wicket for any fast bowler – Arshdeep Singh on Perth surface

The 23-year-old also said that the surface at the Optus Stadium in Perth was the “dream wicket for any fast bowler”.

“You feel confident when you get wickets first up and team also feels confident of your abilities.

“It was a great track to bowl on. It was a dream wicket for any fast bowler and perhaps the spiciest of the tracks I have bowled so far in my career,” he said.

Arshdeep further said that the ideal length will change for every bowler on the pitch in Perth. He said:

“Ideal length will change for every bowler on this track. The day ball swings around a bit, you would like to bowl that fullish length and when there is no purchase from the track, then you bowl normal hard lengths. Both teams used the wicket pretty well and used the hard lengths to execute their plans.”

Arshdeep was asked about the reason behind off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin being handed the 18th over by Rohit Sharma.

“If you are playing five bowlers, wherever Rohit Bhai felt that he should bring in Ashwin he did that,” Arshdeep said in defence of the move.

Notably, India only used five bowlers in the game against South Africa in Perth and Ashwin was forced to bowl the 18th over. The veteran off-spinner conceded back-to-back sixes on the first two balls of the 18th over but made a stellar comeback by dismissing Tristan Stubbs and finishing the overs with 13 runs.
