Pakistan National Cricket Team captain Babar Azam has said that losing two games in a row to start their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 campaign is very hard for the Men In Green.

On Thursday, October 27 at the Optus Stadium in Perth, Pakistan faced their second heartbreaking final-ball loss in a row in the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Pakistan failed to chase down the target of 131 and they lost the match against Zimbabwe by 1-run. Also, in their tournament opener, they had lost against arch-rivals India by 4 wickets at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Babar Azam, who has registered scores of 0 and 4 in two World Cup 2022 games, said that they “were not up to the mark in all three departments” against Zimbabwe. However, he vowed his team will “come back stronger”.

“(It was) very hard as a team or as a captain,” Azam said about losing two games in a row to start the tournament.

“But today we were not up to the mark in all three departments, but we’ll sit and discuss the mistakes and then we’ll come back strongly.”

“To be honest, it’s hard, but we have two days, and we’ll have a sit together and discuss. We will come back stronger.”

With the defeat in back-to-back games, Pakistan are on the verge of getting knocked out of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. Now, the Men In Green need to win their remaining three matches and hope other results go their way, to have a chance to enter the semi-finals phase.

Zimbabwe batting all-rounder Sikandar Raza, who was the MVP of his side in the clash against Pakistan, said that the win against the Men In Green was the best victory he has been part of in his long international career.

“Yeah, I think since I’ve been part of Zimbabwe cricket, I would rate that the best victory we’ve had because there’s no better stage. This is the World Cup, the biggest stage of all,” he said.

“To beat Pakistan by one run, as you said, the modest total. You’re going to have to do everything right to defend that, which we did. I think for me that’s probably the best victory I’ve been part of with Zimbabwe.”

Sikandar Raza further said that they are not looking very far ahead to the semi-finals and they are focusing on one game at a time.

“It’s quite nice to be here with a group who’s wide open now, and not just wide open, that Zimbabwe has got a really good chance to achieve something,” he said.

“I’m not going to start looking or thinking about the semifinal. I’m going to take one game at a time and look at Bangladesh (at the Gabba on Sunday) and take it from there.”
