With the squad announcement for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 just over 10 days away, speculations have emerged regarding India's opening pair. Rumors suggest that India National Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma could potentially open alongside Virat Kohli at the mega event.

It is a surprising twist considering the alternative options available in Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill, as either of them have often opened with Rohit in T20Is earlier. Well, sharing her thoughts on the debate, Goswami wants Virat Kohli to open alongside Rohit Sharma for India in the T20 World Cup 2024.

In his recent appearance on the Club Prairie Fire Podcast with former Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist and England's Michael Vaughan, Rohit addressed the ongoing speculations about India's opening pair for the T20 World Cup 2024, starting on June 1 in the Caribbean and USA.

Rohit Sharma declared all rumours fake

The Indian captain clarified that no decisions have been made regarding the opening combination, and the media reports are completely false. Rohit had said on the podcast: “We haven’t met so far. In today’s age, until and unless you don’t hear from me, Rahul bhai or Ajit bhai, or someone from BCCI, everything else is fake.”

As the deadline for the final squad announcement approaches on May 1, the Indian selection panel is tasked with the crucial responsibility of finding a well-rounded team for the upcoming event.

India will kickstart their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign against Ireland on June 5 in New York, with a highly anticipated clash against Pakistan scheduled for June 9 at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium. Then, the Men in Blue will take on the co-hosts, the USA and Canada, in the tournament.

Virat-Rohit are shining in the IPL 2024

Well, both Virat and Rohit are among the top run- scorers in the ongoing IPL 2024, which is really a great thing for the Indian cricket team.

Interestingly, Royal Challengers Bengalore (RCB) batter Kohli is the leading run- scorer in the ongoing IPL 2024, with 361 runs in 7 games and an amazing average of 72 and a strike rate of 147.

The dashing right-hander has so far opened for the RCB this season, and delivered amazingly, which hinted that the talks about his possible role at the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 are somewhere true.

On the other hand, Rohit, opening for the Mumbai Indians (MI), is the third on the list of the top scorers in the ongoing IPL 2024, with 297 runs in 7 games so far.
