India started the third day on a positive note as they took three wickets in the first session getting Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, and opener Ben Duckett out. Joe Root was out trying to reverse sweep Jasprit Bumrah only to find Yashasvi Jaiswal in the slips. Jonny Bairstow was gone for a duck as he was trapped in front by Kuldeep Yadav. England is on 290/5 after the end of the first session on day 3 of the third Test which is being played at the Niranjan Shah Cricket Stadium in Rajkot.

Jonny Bairstow got an unwanted record after he was out on a duck in the first innings against India in the third Test. Bairstow has now the most number of ducks against India in Test cricket and he’s the only batter in the list to have the most ducks against India in the longest format. Jonny Bairstow has gone out for a duck eight times against India in 37 innings.

Danish Kaneria and Nathan Lyon are next with seven ducks against India in 15 and 40 innings respectively. James Anderson, Mervyn Dillon, and Shane Warne have six ducks against India in 52, 15, and 22 innings respectively. It is an unwanted record for Jonny Bairstow in Test cricket against one of the best Test-playing nations. Jonny Bairstow is not having the best series as he has not been able to score a single fifty-plus score and has scored only 98 runs in the series in five innings.

Jonny Bairstow is known for his Bazball style and always looks to attack the bowlers in Test cricket as well. He is currently facing a challenge in India as the Indian conditions are not suiting Bazball enough. India is currently in a strong position in the match as England is still leading by 155 runs and they need to score a good total from here to take a healthy lead against India’s 445 in the first innings.

Jonny Bairstow records his eighth duck against India in Test cricket

Jonny Bairstow has played 98 Test matches in his career and has amassed 5902 runs at an average of 36.66 which includes 26 half-centuries and 12 centuries. However, he has also registered 17 ducks in his Test career out of which eight are against India which is almost half of the total ducks in his Test career. He has not been at his best form in red-ball cricket and has struggled with the bat in this series.

India and England are playing a five-match Test series which is currently levelled 1-1 and both sides have a great opportunity to take the lead in this series. The hosts lost the first Test in Hyderabad by 28 runs and then made a terrific comeback to win the second Test against England by 106 runs in Vizag. India has never lost a Test series at home since the defeat against England in 2012 where the Alastair Cook-led England side defeated India in India by 2-1 in the four-match series.
