Former England player Owais Shah, who is currently commentating in the India Vs England 5-match Test series with Jio Cinema, hailed Yashasvi Jaiswal for his extraordinary style of batting and labeled him as India’s most destructive batter at the moment in Test cricket.

Shah observed Yashasvi Jaiswal’s confidence and flamboyance as his biggest weapons against tough oppositions like England and noted that the youngster’s approach has remained similar in international cricket as it was in the IPL and in the domestic circuit.

“The talent is there. He has maintained the same approach in domestic cricket. We looked at how he batted in the IPL and that is why he got the opportunity in international cricket. We saw that in the first Test how attacking he can be,” Owais Shah said on Jio Cinema.

The 22-year-old who is only into his first season as an Indian international, has taken the cricketing world by storm since making his debut against West Indies in a 2-match Test series last July. It has not even been a year into the international circuit that Yashasvi Jaiswal has sealed his spot in the national Test side and has regularly partnered alongside captain Rohit Sharma in the opening slot.

He is being seen as a long-term opener for India who has a lot of potential and capability of taking Indian cricket to newer heights. Jaiswal has turned out to become a key player for the Indian Test team, which has been under major transition since their tragic loss against Australia in the ICC World Test Championship 2023 final at Oval.

It was India’s 2nd consecutive WTC final loss with the previous one coming against New Zealand in 2021. If the first WTC final loss wasn’t much of an issue for the team management, the second loss rather agitated them and led to the firing of senior players like Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, and Umesh Yadav.

Since then, India have operated with Shubman Gill as the number 3 batter and Shreyas Iyer as the number 5. The decision has not yet proved to be fruitful and the drawbacks were pretty evident during India’s 1st Test loss against England by 28 runs.

But nonetheless, Indian cricket have found themselves a gem in the form of Yashasvi Jaiswal who smacked his 2nd Test century on day 1 of Test number 2 at Vishakhapatnam and has given the hosts a very good start.

“This Is How Modern-Day Batters Play”, Owais Shah Opines On Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Style Of Play

While assessing the 1st session during lunch break at the ACA-VDCA stadium with Jio cinema, Owais Shah stated that Yashasvi Jaiswal is a true depiction of how a modern Test batter looks and plays like. Shah appreciated the 22-year-old’s positive intent before he went on to claim his 2nd Test ton.

“Even here, he tried to be positive. Hit Joe Root for a boundary early on. It was in the air but this is how modern-day batters play. What an innings he has played so far. I think he is the most dangerous Indian batter at the moment,” Shah concluded.

Meanwhile, the 2nd session of day 1 has come to an end and the post-lunch session remained in favor of India, thanks to Yashasvi Jaiswal who stood firm in the crease for 125 off 185 along with Rajat Patidar as India ended session 2 with a score of 225 at the loss of Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Shreyas Iyer.
