Rohit Sharma goes past Sachin Tendulkar in elite list of captains

Rohit Sharma smashed his 11th century in the first innings of the third Test against England at the Niranjan Shah Cricket Stadium in Rajkot. He scored 131 off 196 deliveries smashing 14 fours and three sixes in his innings and added 204 runs with Ravindra Jadeja for the fourth wicket. Rohit Sharma in his innings of 131 against England also broke some monumental records going past legends like Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni as he laid the foundation for India to put a strong first innings total.

Rohit Sharma went past Sachin Tendulkar to take the no.5 slot amongst Indian captains to score the most runs across formats. India’s batting maestro Virat Kohli comes first on this list with 12883 runs for India as a captain and he is followed by MS Dhoni who has amassed 11207 runs as captain across all formats. Mohammad Azharuddin comes next with 8095 runs as a captain and Sourav Ganguly is at the 4th spot with 7665 runs.  Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma has scored 4540 runs as a captain across formats to claim the 5th position in this list. Sachin Tendulkar has 4508 runs as a captain across all formats.

Rohit Sharma also went past Sourav Ganguly to become the fourth-highest run-getter for India in international cricket. In terms of international cricket for India, Sachin Tendulkar tops the list with 34208 runs with Virat Kohli coming second with 26733 runs. India’s current head coach Rahul Dravid is third on this list with 24208 runs and Rohit Sharma now has taken the fourth spot with 18642 runs surpassing Sourav Ganguly who is now fifth with 18575 runs in international cricket.

Rohit Sharma also surpassed MS Dhoni to become the second-leading six-hitter for India in Test cricket. He has smoked the red ball outside the boundary rope 79 times while MS Dhoni has done it 78 times. Only Virender Sehwag has more sixes than Rohit Sharma for India in Test cricket as he has smashed 90 sixes for India in Test cricket. Sachin Tendulkar is fourth on the list with 69 sixes whereas Ravindra Jadeja is sixth in this list now with 63 sixes in Test cricket.

Rohit Sharma has completed 1000 runs against England in Test cricket

Rohit Sharma achieved another milestone as he completed 1000 runs against England in Tests and it took 23 innings for him to reach this milestone which includes four half-centuries and three centuries. The Indian skipper only needs 41 runs more to complete his 4000 runs in Test cricket. Rohit Sharma has been brilliant in Test cricket since he started to open the innings in 2019. Since then he has smashed eight centuries and six half-centuries in Test cricket to become one of the most decorated Indian openers in Test cricket.

India has not lost a Test series at home since the defeat against England in 2012 and they have won 16 consecutive Test series at home. The hosts are looking to win their 17th consecutive Test series at home by defeating England in this ongoing five-match series. The series is currently leveled 1-1 as India lost the series opener by 28 runs in Hyderabad but made a terrific comeback in Vizag winning the second Test by 106 runs. The third Test is a great opportunity for both sides to take a lead in this series.
