Indian wicketkeeper batter Dinesh Karthik left former England skipper Kevin Pietersen speechless on Day 4 of the 2nd Test between the two teams. Dinesh Karthik swiftly shut down Kevin Pietersen’s speculation about a potential England victory in the game.

Following a 28-run loss in the first Test, India secured a 106-run victory during the second game, leveling the five-match series 1-1. Jasprit Bumrah was named Player of the Match for his brilliant bowling performance, taking 6/45 in the first innings and 3/46 in the second.

With England‘s score at 275/7, they required 124 runs with three wickets in hand. Kevin Pietersen raised the prospect of an English victory during England’s chase. Dinesh Karthik‘s response didn’t align with Pietersen’s optimism, leading to an intriguing exchange.

Pietersen noted the partnership between Hartley and Foakes, highlighting their batting capabilities. Karthik responded skeptically to Pietersen’s optimism, questioning the situation.

“This is the best partnership for England in this innings thus far. Hartley 30, Foakes 36. Foakes has Test hundreds. Hartley I believe in second team cricket a few years ago, got a double hundred. So he can bat a bit. There is still some hope for England. 124 required, 40 overs left in the day’s play, plus that extra half and hour which we got in Hyderabad last week. There’s still a chance here. DK?,” Pietersen said.

“You’re saying there’s still a chance? What are we talking about here, KP?,” Dinesh Karthik replied.

“Of these two doing the job for England,” Pietersen said.

“Oh come on, KP. Your mom’s going to wake you up from sleep. You’re dreaming,” Karthik said.

“So, no chance you say? Zero. It’s a foregone conclusion India are winning this Test match?,” Pietersen said.

“Yes, I would like to think so at this point. See, there is always something funny around the corner. But I still believe India are very much in with a chance here,” Karthik said.

Jasprit Bumrah and Mukesh Kumar picked up the last three wickets to conclude the England innings at 292 runs. Bumrah dismissed Ben Foakes, while Mukesh claimed the wicket of Shoaib Bashir. Bumrah bowled Tom Hartley, which contributed to India’s triumph in Vizag.

Following the conclusion of the second Test match, both England and Team India players are enjoying a break and spending time with family. During this break, England opted for a trip to the U.A.E. for relaxation before returning to India for the upcoming match in Rajkot.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India is yet to announce the squad for the upcoming Tests as they await injury updates on KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja. Virat Kohli is unlikely to play in the Rajkot Test, casting doubt on his availability for the remainder of the series.

India and England are set to clash in the third Test at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot from February 15 to 19, with the match commencing at 9:30 AM IST. Rajkot has hosted two Tests previously, with India winning one and the other ending in a draw.
