Rishabh Pant is supposedly a far better Test player than in ODIs and T20Is right now, but if former England fast bowler Darren Gough is to be believed, that will change shortly.

With an incredible fifth century in the format, which he hit against England in the fifth rescheduled Test at Edgbaston, Rishabh Pant’s legacy in Test cricket is getting better.

Though Pant’s Test performance keeps improving, his limited-overs performance, particularly in the T20Is, is still a reason for worry. Pant has 715 runs and three half-centuries in 48 T20Is, the most recent of which was against the West Indies in February. However, his statistics in white-ball formats are not particularly astounding for such a great Test player.

It is often considered that Pant performs better in Test matches than in ODIs and T20Is, but if former England fast bowler Darren Gough is to be believed, that perception will soon alter.

“He performed admirably. Pant will undoubtedly score runs for India in T20 cricket over the next three, four, five, six, and seven years. He will rule T20 cricket. He has a great talent. And no boundary is big enough for him because he hits the ball so far” Gough told Cricket.com.

‘I think he is a serious talent’: Darren Gough

Darren Gough praised Pant highly for scoring a hundred in the first innings. Pant produced an 89-ball century and had a 222-run partnership with another hundred, Ravindra Jadeja, as India struggled at 98/5.

“I would not go too deeply into it, you know. He has serious talent, in my opinion. What is not to like about watching him bat? The absolute joy in opposition to some top-notch bowling, by the way. Take a look at the attack by England. There are two players – Broad and Anderson – who have combined for 1200 Test wickets, as well as Ben Stokes, the most underrated Test bowler in the world” Darren Gough said.

The first Twenty20 International (T20I) match of the three-match series will take place on Thursday, July 7 at the Rose Bowl Cricket Ground in Southampton between India and England.
