Dinesh Karthik was India’s finisher in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. The 37-year-old has not been named in the squad for the New Zealand tour. Robin Uthappa feels Sanju Samson and Deepak Hooda should be groomed for the finisher’s role on their road to the next T20 World Cup in 2024.

Team India tour New Zealand between November 18 and 30 for a white-ball series comprising three T20Is and three ODIs. The first match of the three-match T20I series between the Men in Blue and the Black Caps was called off due to rain without a ball being bowled at Sky Stadium, Wellington, on Friday, November 18.

“Hardik will obviously be there. But besides him, I feel Sanju Samson and Deepak Hooda should play the finisher’s role for India. These are the people that they need to look at leading up to the next T20 World Cup. You need to groom them and give them enough opportunities because they can win you matches,” Robin Uthappa said.

No. 4-7 Are The Toughest Places To Bat In T20 Cricket – Robin Uthappa

Robin Uthappa believes that team management and selectors must be patient with whoever they groom for the No. 6 position in the batting order. He cited former cricketer Mohammad Kaif, who also batted as a finisher for the Men in Blue.

“Kaif bhai will know that to bat at the No. 6 position is never easy and the success rate isn’t always high. So you need to be patient with them and it is important for the selectors, the coaching staff and the leadership group to exercise this patience. I feel No. 4-7 are the toughest places to bat in T20 cricket,” he added.
