Shardul Thakur took three wickets in the second ODI, matching Deepak Chahar’s haul in the first game, the man he replaced in the match, to bowl Zimbabwe out for 161 on Saturday in Harare. Thakur took the most wickets for India, but it was a team effort, with Mohammed Siraj’s eight overs going for only 16 runs and all of the bowlers on show picking up a wicket or two.

Zimbabwe openers Takudzwanashe Kaitano, who was brought in for Tadiwanashe Marumani, and Innocent Kaia began cautiously after being asked to bat. After losing four wickets in just over ten overs in the first ODI, the hosts lost as many again in the 2nd ODI.

Despite the caution at the start, Zimbabwe found themselves in familiar territory at 31 for 4 after 12.4 overs. The previous time was 31 for 4 in 10.1 overs.

As Keepers, We Are Used To Listening Things: Sanju Samsom

Sikandar Raza and Sean Williams held the position for a while. Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav remained firm in the attack. Raza struggled against Axar’s arm balls, and he also survived a strong lbw appeal. Raza though eventually fell to Kuldeep when he sliced one to backward point, ending a 41-run partnership with Williams.

The hosts managed just 161 runs. India did not start the chase well as they lost their captain early, India chased down the target in overs with 5 wickets in hand. Sanju Samson scored 43 runs from 39 balls and helped India chase down the total. He was declared player of the match for his performance, “How much ever time you spend in the middle feels good.

I took three catches but I missed a stumping too; as keepers, we’re used to listening to things we didn’t do well. I really enjoyed keeping and contributing to the win. In this match, the fast bowlers picked the length much quicker and I really enjoyed keeping”, he said in the post-match presentation.
