IPL 2022: First Choice Seven Indian Players Of Rajasthan Royals (RR) For The Tournament

Rajasthan Royals have been the perennial underachievers in the IPL after 2008. The inaugural champions have failed to replicate their 2008 feat for the next 13 seasons not managing to get to any more finals. Since coming back into the IPL after the two-year ban, the franchise made the knockouts only once in 2018.

Ahead of the IPL 2022 auction, the franchise retained just three players. The Royals retained Sanju Samson for Rs. 14 crores, Jos Buttler for Rs. 10 crores, and Yashasvi Jaiswal for Rs. 4 crores. They added 21 players in the mega auction to complete a squad of 24 players.

The franchise has managed to put together a strong squad. They have picked up some experienced and some young players on the back of whom they are looking to build a squad for the next three to five years. Yashasvi Jaiswal

Jaiswal was retained for four crores. The franchise saw the spark in the youngster over IPL 2020 and 2021 and decided to retain him placing a huge amount of trust on the youngster. So far in 13 games, he has scored 289 runs with just one fifty to his name. He will open the batting with Jos Buttler. The southpaw needs to have a good season to stand up to the expectations of his franchise.

Sanju Samson

Samson will lead the Royals and bat at number three for the franchise. His international track record is nowhere close to his IPL record. However, he found some form in the second T20I against Sri Lanka notching up his highest T20I score in Dharamsala. He has been with the franchise since 2013 and is almost synonymous to the identity of the franchise.

Riyan Parag

Riyan Parag is another youngster who has been groomed by the franchise in the last two years. He was bought back by the franchise for 3.80 crores. He too is yet to prove his potential for the franchise. IPL 2022 thus is expected to be a make-or-break season for him. So far in the IPL, he has played 30 matches for the Rajasthan Royals and scored 339 runs with one fifty-plus score.

Yuzvendra Chahal

The franchise has done well to bag Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin as their two specialist spinners. Both are expected to play all the games for the franchise, They added Chahal for 6.5 Cr. The wily leg-spinner is India’s highest wicket-taker in T20I cricket and someone who is constantly improving his skillset.

Ravichandran Ashwin

Ashwin will be Chahal’s spinning partner. Rajasthan Royals added the veteran off-spinner for 5 Crores. The off-spinner was a part of Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020 and 2021 and then decided to let him go ahead of the mega auction. So far in 167 games, Ravichandran Ashwin has picked up 145 wickets. His leadership skills will also be beneficial to the team in crunch situations.

Prasidh Krishna

The franchise added Prasish Krishna to their stocks for 10 crores. He was one of the most expensive buys for the franchise. After spending four seasons with KKR, Krishna will now play for the Royals. He recently made his ODI and T20I debut and is in line for a Test debut soon. Krishna’s height is being seen as his biggest asset as a pacer and cricket experts are expecting him to do big things in the future.

Navdeep Saini

Navdeep Saini, Prasidh Krishna and Trent Boult can make a formidable pace trio for the franchise. They bagged him at 2.6 crores. So far in the IPL, Saini had played only for the RCB picking up 17 wickets in 28 games for the franchise. Saini completes the list of seven Indian players the Royals are likely to include in their playing XI.
