Australian opening batter David Warner has recently said that he is excited to be back at Delhi Capitals and wants to learn one-handed shots from captain Rishabh Pant.

Warner started his IPL career with Delhi Daredevils as it was then called, he did well for them but as the nature of the Indian Premier League is, he wasn’t retained by the franchise back then. He was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad in the first-ever Mega Auctions.

He led SRH to its first-ever title in 2016. In 2021 IPL was sacked as their captain and was also not retained by them. Delhi Capitals bought in the 2022 mega auctions.

David Warner is an IPL legend as there has rarely been a season where he has not scored runs. He has won the orange cap twice. Even in the season where Virat Kohli scored 973 runs, Warner was the 2nd highest run-getter with over 800 runs in the season. He is in great form coming into the new season as he was the player of the tournament in the 2021 T20 World Cup tournament where Australia won the cup.

“It’s exciting to be back in the franchise which played a big part at the beginning of my IPL career. There are some familiar faces around and there are some new faces, so I’m excited to get into it,” said the former SRH captain.

When asked about working with Rishabh Pant and Ricky Ponting, he said: “I want to learn how to play the one-handed shots from Rishabh. He’s a young guy learning the ropes of leadership and he has been an integral part of the Indian team as well. I am excited and I can’t wait to bat with him in the middle.

“Ricky has had a fair bit of success with DC. He was a great leader for Australia and now he has a lot of respect as a coach. I am looking forward to working with him.”

David Warner is likely to play the next game for Delhi Capitals when they take on Lucknow Super Giants on 7th April.
