Former Pakistan cricketer Mushtaq Ahmed appreciated England and Rajasthan Royals star batter Jos Buttler for remembering his important advice.
Buttler is having a tremendous IPL 2022 season with Rajasthan Royals (RR), scoring 499 runs in eight innings at an impressive strike rate of 159.42.
The English wicketkeeper-batter has hit three centuries so far this season and overall four IPL hundreds. He is just behind Virat Kohli (5) and Chris Gayle (6) for scoring most IPL hundreds.
Mushtaq Ahmed always told me to hit on the off-side: Jos Buttler
Buttler revealed how Mushtaq Ahmed, worked with England men’s cricket team from 2008 to 2014 as their spin bowling coach, helped him identify his weakness.
“Mushtaq Ahmed always told me to hit on the off-side first and then come around to the leg-side. If you are looking only on the leg-side, you will never hit the ball on the off-side,” Buttler told Ashwin in a video uploaded on RR’s YouTube channel.
It is nice when you work with someone and they remember it: Mushtaq Ahmed
Mushtaq Ahmed said he personally thanked Buttler for remembering him in the public domain.
Ahmed, who played 52 Tests and 144 ODIs for Pakistan, said they will adopt a similar culture of England cricket to Pakistan.
“I worked with England for six years and everyone remembers the technical work we did. It is nice when you work with someone and they remember it, I communicated with Buttler and thanked him too,” Ahmed told Cricket Pakistan.
“The coach’s job is to pass on his knowledge and experience to the players, the rest is up to the player. We are also trying to bring this culture to the Pakistani team,” he added.
Buttler is likely to chase Virat Kohli’s record of 973 runs in IPL 2016.
Rajasthan Royals are currently placed second on the points table with six wins in eight matches. The Sanju Samson-led side is just two points behind leaders Gujarat Titans in the table.
