Former Indian player Virender Sehwag lavished praise on Rajasthan Royals batter Yashasvi Jaiswal on his integral role against Punjab Kings.

Jaiswal led Rajasthan Royals’ chase of 190 with 41-ball 68, his innings was laced with nine fours and a couple of sixes. The southpaw smashed a couple of boundaries and a six off Sandeep Sharma in the first over itself.

Shimron Hetmyer’s blistering 31 runs in 15 balls took Rajasthan Royals past the finishing line with four balls to spare.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was the X-factor in the match: Virender Sehwag

Sehwag said Jaiswal was the key factor in the Rajasthan Royals chase and appreciated the kind of shots he displayed off his willow.

The way he began left me stunned because he was looking in very good touch. A lot of times, players look in very good form in the nets and the management then decides to play them and see what happens.

“Some of the shots he played were amazing. A left-hander has a different kind of class and the same was evident in Jaiswal today,” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.

“He was the X-factor in the match and batted for nearly 15 overs. He had partnerships with Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson and Devdutt Padikkal. The crucial thing was that he did not get out (after getting a start). In a chase of 190, you often keep losing wickets at regular intervals, which makes life difficult for the chasing side. Jaiswal didn’t let that happen,” he added.

After scores of 20,1 & 4 in the first three matches of the season, the 20-year-old was dropped from the team only to storm back against Punjab Kings with a scintillating knock.

“It happens sometimes when you are hurt. He must have been thinking – ‘how did I lose my place in the playing XI? I was retained but someone else is playing instead of me’. When a player is hurt, expect him to do well when he comes back,” Sehwag said on Jaiswal’s comeback in IPL 2022.

Rajasthan Royals regained their momentum of winning ways and look favourite to secure a berth in the IPL 2022 playoffs.
