The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to introduce a policy to prevent the players from pulling out of the marquee Indian Premier League (IPL) without a legit reason, as per reports.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) started planning for this new policy related to players pulling out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) after concerns were raised by the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises in governing council meeting over players opting out of the marquee T20 league after being bought by the teams at the auction.

England opener Jason Roy, who was bought by Gujarat Titans (GT) for INR 2 crore, decided to withdraw his name and that was a huge blow to the GT.

I feel it is only right that I spend some quality time with my family. As well as spending time on myself and my game over the next couple of months, leading into a very busy year,” Roy had said in a statement.

Also, opener Alex Hales, who was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for INR 1.5 crore, pulled out of the tournament citing bio-bubble fatigue. England Pacer Mark Wood, who was bought by Lucknow Super Giants for a hefty amount of INR 7.5 crore, was ruled out of the Indian Premier League 2022 due to an injury.

A GC member has said that the franchises bid for players after a lot of planning and if a player pulls out of the IPL for “flimsy reasons,” the franchise suffers.

The GC has a commitment towards the franchises who are the important stakeholders of the league. They bid for a player after a lot of planning. Their calculations go haywire if a player pulls out, that too for flimsy reasons,” a GC member was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

“There will not be a sweeping policy that everyone who has pulled out of the IPL will be prevented for a certain number of years.

“It will be on a case-by-case basis and some research will be done before action is initiated. What if the reason is genuine,” the report quoted an unnamed source as saying.
