South African pacer and former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bowler, Lungi Ngidi, revealed a timely field placement change made by the captain, MS Dhoni, which made a huge difference in the IPL 2018 final against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Ngidi’s final spell in that final netted them the wicket of Deepak Hooda, who was a threat in the final overs. The wicket came when the Chennai outfit desperately needed it and they eventually bagged their third IPL trophy.

It was the final against the Sunrisers (Hyderabad) in 2018, we hadn’t discussed a certain field placement but he automatically just changed my field and with that field, within a couple of balls, we got a wicket to the fielder that he had moved.

So for me, that’s one thing that sticks out in my mind because in a final, to have such a moment like that and to execute the plan that he wanted, really gave me confidence in terms of how to bowl and it just showed me how in tune he is with the game in terms of how he sees it’s going to play out and it played out exactly the way I think he thought it was going to,” Ngidi said in an exclusive interview with Times Now.

Ngidi also expressed gratitude after being given a chance to play under Dhoni, which helped him tremendously in his career, as explained by the pacer himself. He played 14 matches for CSK where he took 25 wickets in total.

As you can see behind me (shows his CSK jersey hanging on the wall), it obviously means a lot to me. It is something that I’ll cherish forever in my life. When I was young I also used to watch the Super Kings and that was one of the teams that I wanted to play for and I was fortunate enough to get that opportunity and to play under MS Dhoni has helped me immensely grow as a cricketer,” Ngidi added.

Ngidi has entered the IPL 2022 mega auction where he has set his base price at INR 50 lakh.
