The 14th over of Punjab Kings’ innings saw a double blow for their team as it saw the backs of Dawid Malan and Deepak Hooda. Delhi Capitals’ left-arm spinner Axar Patel had delivered a tidy over as it went for only three runs and yielded two wickets. Hooda departed for a single, with captain Mayank Agarwal fighting at the other end.

The incident occurred on the third ball of the 14th over, two balls after Axar Patel uprooted Dawid Malan’s leg-stump. Mayank Agarwal, who was on strike, punched to extra cover, and ran off, ending up at the non-striker’s end with Deepak Hooda. Shimron Hetmyer flicked the ball to Patel and he dislodged the stumps at the non-striker’s end and threw it to Pant again, who also did the same.

Nevertheless, confusion prevailed as to who amongst Deepak Hooda and Mayank Agarwal was out. Replays indicated that when Axar Patel disturbed the stumps at the non-striker’s end, Hooda ran a fair distance and failed to make it back in time. Thus, the third umpire declared him out. Before Deepak, Punjab had lost Malan, Chris Gayle, and Prabhsimran Singh.

Earlier, the Delhi Capitals captain won the toss and elected to field first, deciding to go ahead with an unchanged side. On the other hand, Punjab Kings stand-in skipper Mayank Agarwal opted for two changes, with KL Rahul being forced out due to appendicitis and Agarwal coming in. The management also left out Nicholas Pooran, who recorded his fourth duck of IPL 2021, to hand Dawid Malan his IPL debut.
