Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals are looking for an impactful finisher. The franchise will want some stability in the middle order. While they have Shimron Hetmyer by their side, Rajasthan Royals will look for someone to set the team off to a good start and in case of early wicket losses, balance the game.

Rajasthan Royals completed their full squad strength of 25 after buying nine players in the IPL 2023 mini-auction in Kochi on Friday. West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder was the biggest buy for RR as they splurged INR 5.75 crore for his services. RR spent INR 1.5 crore for Australian spinner Adam Zampa and INR 1 crore for England batter Joe Root. They also bought the services of uncapped South African Donovan Ferreira for INR 50 lakh.

England limited-overs skipper opener Jos Buttler was the Orange Cap holder in IPL 2022, for scoring 863 runs in 17 IPL 2022 games which included as many as 4 tons. His strike rate was 149 plus. Jos Buttler who is playing IPL since 2016 is playing for Rajasthan from IPL 2018.

Yashasvi Jaiswal

Yashasvi Jaiswal will be another opener for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2023. He will have to battle it out with Devdutt Padikkal for the openers slot though. Yashasvi Jaiswal was bought by Rajasthan Royals for INR 2.40 Cr ahead of the IPL 2020. He didn’t have tasted much success in IPL though amassing only 547 runs in 23 games averaging 23.78 with 3 fifties.

Devdutt Padikkal, on the other hand, had scored a ton for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2021 and scored in excess of 400 runs for RCB in both IPL 2020 and 2021. For RR, he scored 376 runs in 17 IPL 2022 games averaging 22.12.

Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson, the RR skipper, will keep wickets as well in IPL 2023. Sanju Samson scored 342 runs in IPL 2019 and then followed it up with 375 runs in IPL 2020. He was moved into a senior position when named captain for the IPL 2021 season.

He scored 484 runs in IPL 2021 averaging 40.33 in 14 games and 458 runs in IPL 2022 in 17 games. He had scored 3 tons and his career-best 119 came in IPL 2021. He will be a key player for the franchise in IPL 2023.

Shimron Hetmyer

Shimron Hetmyer will fight for a place in RR XI in IPL 2023 with Joe Root. West Indies middle order batter Shimron Hetmyer who was bought for a whopping INR 8.5 crore in IPL 2022 auction scored 314 runs in IPL 2022 averaging 44.86 at a strike rate of 153.92.

Joe Root was bought by RR for INR 1 crore in IPL 2023. Joe Root hadn’t featured in IPL before.

Riyan Parag

Riyan Parag, the Assam batter, was bought by Rajasthan Royals for INR 20 lakh in the third and final round of the player auction before IPL 2019. He hadn’t performed up to his potential in IPL though since 2019 as he managed only 522 runs in 47 matches averaging a below-par 16.84.

Jason Holder, the West Indies former skipper all-rounder, played 12 games for the new franchise Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2022 and scored only 58 runs besides taking 14 scalps.

Jason Holder was picked by Rajasthan Royals during IPL 2023 auction. The team shelled out Rs. 5.75 crores to grab the player into their squad. Jason Holder had set a base price of Rs. 2 crores in the IPL 2023 auction.

Jason Holder first played in IPL in the 2013 season. So far, he has played in IPL 2013, 2014, 2016, 2020, 2021, and 2022. He has played for teams like Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Lucknow Super Giants.

Yuzvendra Chahal

Yuzvendra Chahal, the leg spinner, was a purple cap winner in IPL 2022, for picking 27 scalps in 17 games averaging 19.52 including a career-best 5/40. Yuzvendra Chahal was not retained by the RCB and at the IPL 2022 auction and RR got him for INR 6.50 crore.

The leg spinner was part of Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2021. He scalped 18 wickets in 15 games in IPL 2021. In IPL 2022, he picked 27 scalps in only 17 games averaging only 19.52 which came at an economy rate of only 7.75.

Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin, the RR off-spinner, picked 12 scalps in 17 IPL 2022 games averaging 41.92 while also contributing 191 runs averaging 27.29 at a strike rate of 141.48 including his maiden IPL fifty in IPL 2022. The veteran spinner had earlier represented CSK, DC, PBKS, and now defunct RPS.

Prasidh Krishna

Prasidh Krishna, the Rajasthan Royals pacer, has also represented India in 14 ODIs where he picked 25 scalps averaging 23.92. He previously played for KKR from 2018-2021. In IPL 2021, he had picked 12 scalps in 10 games at 29.25.

In an intense bidding war for the fast bowler from Karnataka, RR had to eventually shell out a whopping INR 10 crore in IPL 2022. Prasidh Krishna had set his base price at INR 1 crore. He picked 19 scalps in 17 IPL 2022 games averaging 29.

Trent Boult

Trent Boult, the Kiwi pacer, had done well for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2020 by picking 25 scalps in 15 games averaging 18.48 including a career-best of 4/18. Overall, he had picked 92 scalps in 78 IPL games averaging 26.9.

He had played for DC, KKR, MI, and SRH previously apart from RR in IPL 2022 where he picked 16 scalps in as many games averaging 30.75.  Rajasthan Royals was successful in bidding for him and got him finally for INR 8 crore in IPL 2022 auctions. He will play a crucial role in RR’s success in IPL 2023.

Kuldeep Sen

Kuldeep Sen, the right-arm fast bowler from Madhya Pradesh was picked up by RR for INR 20 lakhs in IPL 2022 auctions and he did well picking 8 scalps in 7 games averaging 29.63 with a best of 4/20. His performances earned him a place in the Indian team.

He debuted in the 1st ODI against Bangladesh and picked 2/37 in the only ODI he has played to date before suffering an injury that ruled him out of the ODI series.

Due to a stiff back, the India pacer did not get selected for the second ODI against Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka. The Rewa-born speedster has flown back to India for rehabilitation at National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. If fit, he will play a crucial role in RR’s success in IPL 2023.
