Delhi Capitals (DC) had won the toss & elected to bowl against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). KKR had a dreadful start to their power-play overs as they lost 3 wickets and managed to score 35 runs. Mandeep Singh surprisingly was seen batting at the no.5 position as Litton Das & Jason Roy opened the batting for KKR. Mandeep Singh was slowly getting into the groove.

DC’s decision to include the veteran Ishant Sharma into the playing 11 did wonders as he took the priced wicket of Nitish Rana. The pitch was a bit uneven as the pacers were getting ample help from the surface. DC’s pacers hunted in a pack.

Skipper David Warner was marshaling his troops smartly and it won’t be wrong to say that this is a do-or-die kind of match for DC who have lost 5 on the trot. KKR on the other hand have suffered 2 back to back close defeats in IPL 2023.

Axar Patel cleans up Mandeep Singh

At the end of 8 overs, KKR’s score was 49-3. Axar Patel was bowling the 9th over, on the 2nd delivery of the over Axar went around the wicket to Mandeep Singh and he tried to play a scoop shot but missed it completely and his stumps were thrashed. Mandeep Singh was dismissed on 12 runs in 11 balls and struck 1 six.

Axar Patel so far in his spell has shown good control over his line & length. DC would sense that they can bundle out KKR inside 140 runs. KKR’s score at 8.2 overs was 50-4 and now would require a helluva of effort to post a competitive score.

Critical Phase for KKR

The track doesn’t look like 190 one but KKR fans would be hoping that Jason Roy stays till the end of the innings. It would be interesting to see how Rinku Singh approaches his batting as playing an ultra-attacking brand of cricket could be risky.

DC on the other hand have looked like a different unit from the word go. DC would be aware of the fact that the likes of Andre Russell & Sunil Narine can play breezy cameos at the back end of the innings, Warner can’t afford to get complacent in this crunch match.
