IPL 2023 Auction: 3 Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) Players Punjab Kings (PBKS) Can Target.  After the IPL 2022 mega auction, the cricket legends weighted Punjab Kings among the probable teams to reach the playoff and even win the IPL trophy. The reason was that they had a very good team comprising a bunch of talented utility players who could single-handedly win matches for the franchise.

But, after the IPL league stage finished, the Mayank Agarwal-led team found themselves packing their bags with just 7 wins from 14 matches, finishing the IPL 2022 points table in the 6th position. There will be a lot of brainstorming from now leading up to the 16th edition of the IPL. The likes of Shahrukh Khan, Benny Howell, Sandeep Sharma, Vaibhav Arora, and even IPL 2022 skipper Mayank Agarwal may be released by the franchise.

According to several reports, the Mohali-based franchise is eyeing to release three expensive buys – Mayank Agarwal (INR 12 crore), Shahrukh Khan (INR 9 crore) and Odean Smith (INR 6 crore) – so that they will enter the mini-auction with a big purse.

Veteran Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan has been confirmed as the new captain of the Punjab Kings (PBKS) franchise for the forthcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 on Wednesday. Shikhar Dhawan, who was not a part of the Indian T20I World Cup 2022 squad and is considered an ODI specialist and ODI skipper nowadays will replace another opener Mayank Agarwal as the leader of the Punjab-based franchise in the IPL 2023.

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) IPL 2022 tournament was a replay of their performance in the IPL 2021. Though they managed to win 6 matches out of 14 and amassed 12 points, they still managed to finish in the 8th spot out of 10 teams.

One of the biggest reasons for a dismal season was New Zealand Kane Williamson, who just couldn’t get going throughout the tournament with a strike rate of under 100.

Kane Williamson, who struggled with an elbow issue, scored 216 runs in 13 innings at a disappointing average of 19 and an ever poorer strike rate of 93. Their biggest buy-in IPL 2022 auction was West Indies’ Nicholas Pooran for INR 10.75 crores, and then his teammate Romario Shepherd for INR 7.75 Crores.

The likes of Shashank Singh, Romario Shepherd, Abdul Samad, Shreyas Gopal, and Sean Abbott may be released by SRH before IPL 2023.

Sunrisers Hyderabad may release New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson owing to his dismal performance in the IPL 2022.  The veteran scored only 216 runs in the league’s 13 games, averaging 19.64 and striking out at a low 93.

SRH was in the headlines for firing then-skipper David Warner in the IPL 2021 edition and during the team coach’s pre-auction. If the Kiwi skipper is released by SRH, Punjab Kings may target him in IPL 2023 mini auctions.

Kartik Tyagi

Kartik Tyagi showcased his talent with the Rajasthan Royals and picked 9 wickets in 10 matches in his debut season in IPL 2020. Sunrisers Hyderabad subsequently shelled out INR 4 crore for the young pacer in the auctions for the IPL 2022.

However, with the presence of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umran Malik, and T Natarajan in the pace attack, Kartik Tyagi got only two games in the IPL 2022. The youngster managed to pick up just one wicket in two games and gave away runs at a rate of 9.87.

Many other franchises are short of quality Indian pacers in their ranks and will happily match the price tag of INR 4 crore for the right-arm pacer. Sunrisers Hyderabad could look to trade Kartik Tyagi in the trade window ahead of the min-auctions for IPL 2023 and Punjab Kings may pick him in their IPL 2023 squad.

Fazalhaq Farooqi

The left-arm pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi is another exciting prospect to emerge out of Afghanistan cricket. Sunrisers Hyderabad invested in Fazalhaq Farooqi as they signed the Afghan pacer for INR 50 lakh in the auction for the Indian Premier League 2022.

However, with the presence of Marco Jansen in the squad, Fazalhaq Farooqi got only three chances in playing XI during the IPL 2022-his maiden IPL season. The left-arm pacer picked up only two wickets at an economy rate of 9.17. He is unlikely to get many chances for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2023.

Fazalhaq Farooqi had an impressive 2022 T20 World Cup as he accounted for three wickets in three matches at an economy rate of 6.52. The left-arm pacer is a good new-ball bowler and will be an asset for any team. In 17 T20Is, he has picked 21 scalps averaging 20.52.

Franchises like Punjab Kings will be keeping a tab on young Afghan pacers. Hence, it won’t be a surprise if SRH trades Fazalhaq Farooqi in the trading window ahead of the upcoming IPL 2023 mini auctions. Punjab Kings may include the pacer in their IPL 2023 squad.
