IPL auction 2023 is all set to take place on December 23 and like every team, Chennai Super Kings are also gearing up to grab a few powerful players in their squad. During IPL 2023 retentions, Chennai Super Kings retained 18 players in their squad and released 8 players.

Now, Chennai Super Kings have Rs. 20.45 crores left in salary cap in the IPL auction 2023. They can grab a maximum of 7 players during the auction out of which only 2 can be overseas players. Here we talk about 3 openers Chennai Super Kings can target during the IPL auction 2023.

3. Dawid Malan

Dawid Malan is one of the openers that Chennai Super Kings might be interested to pick during the IPL auction 2023. The left-handed batsman went unsold in the last season’s auction. He has a good record in T20Is so far, smashing 1748 runs for England at an average of 38.84 and strike rate of 135+.

Malan has also hit 1 century and 14 half-centuries in T20Is. He has only played 1 IPL game so far in which he scored 26 runs.

2. Martin Guptill

Martin Guptill is another opener that Chennai Super Kings can target during the IPL auction 2023. Guptill is a New Zealand player and among the top run-getters in T20 internationals. The Kiwi batter was not part of the last season.

He last played in IPL 2019 in which he scored 81 runs in 3 games. The right-handed batsman has a base price of Rs. 1 crore in the IPL 2023 auction. IN 13 IPL games so far, Guptill has hit 270 runs at an average of 22.50.

Jason Roy is another opener that Chennai Super Kings can target in the IPL auction 2023. The England opener has kept a base price of Rs. 1.5 crore for himself. The right-handed batsman was part of Gujarat Titans last season.

However, he did not play any game in the season and the team released him during IPL 2023 retentions. In the 2021 season, he played 5 games and scored 150 runs at an average of 30.0 for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
