Liam Livingstone Out? Sikandar Raza Doubtful!! Best Punjab Kings Playing 11 for IPL 2024

Punjab Kings have been the perennial underachievers in the IPL. They made the final only once in IPL 2024 and have finished sixth or below in the majority of the seasons. 

Punjab Kings finished eight last season in another disappointing season winning six games and losing eight. They are led by Shikhar Dhawan who is amongst the top-scorers in the tournament. 

Though Dhawan had 373 runs in 11 matches last season, he ran out of partners from the other end. The Punjab Kings confirmed that Jonny Bairstow will be available throughout the season for the Kings. He did not have a good Test series against India but is a good white-ball player.

The Kings like RCB do not have a good Indian spinner in their ranks which might be a cause of concern. Harshal Patel (Rs. 11.75 crore), Chris Woakes (Rs. 4.20 crore), Ashutosh Sharma (Rs. 20 lakhs), Vishwanath Pratap Singh (Rs. 20 lakhs), Shashank Singh (Rs. 20 lakhs), Tanay Thyagarajann (Rs. 20 lakhs), Prince Choudhary (Rs. 20 lakhs), Rilee Rossouw (Rs. 8 crores) were the players bought by Punjab Kings this auction.

Shikhar Dhawan (C)

Dhawan will open the batting. A lot rests on his shoulders with the bat. The southpaw has been scoring heavily in the IPL since 2016 and has been consistent as well. He is eyeing 7000 IPL runs. 

Jonny Bairstow 

Bairstow should open the batting with Dhawan. He is a good white-ball batsman and should use the IPL to come back into form ahead of the T20 World Cup. Bairstow scored 253 runs for the Kings last season. 

Prabhsimran Singh

The keeper-batter can slot in at three. He opened the batting and played at three in a few games last season for the Kings. He is a big hitter and can score quick runs for the side. Singh scored 358 runs last season including a century.

Liam Livingstone / Sikandar Raza

One among Raza or Livingstone can bat at four. The Zimbabwea T20I skipper had a good 2023 where he was nominated as the T20I player of the year last year. Since 2022, he has scored over 2000 runs in white-ball cricket and taken 71 wickets. 

Jitesh Sharma (WK)

Jitesh Sharma will slot in at five as the special wicketkeeper. He is an aggressive batsman and has done well with the limited opportunities he has got with the Indian team. 

Chris Woakes 

The Sam Curran experiment did not work well for the Punjab Kings. Thus they bought Chris Woakes who has plenty of experience in the IPL and can come in as a replacement for Curran. 

Rishi Dhawan

Rishi Dhawan, the Himachal cricketer can bat at seven. He has played for many seasons in the IPL but has failed to cement his place. However, this time, he fits the bill at six.

Harshal Patel 

PBKS splurged 11.75 crores for Harshal Patel. He is not currently a part of the Indian team but has plenty of experience of playing in the IPL. He was the Purple Cap winner of IPL 2021 for RCB.

Arshdeep Singh 

Arshdeep is well and truly the leader of this bowling attack. He has picked up over 50 wickets for the Punjab Kings and picked up 17 wickets last season. He also had two good years with the Indian team. 

Kagiso Rabada 

Raabada will lead the Punjab Kings’ pace attack. He joined the side in IPL 2022 and has picked 30 wickets in the last two seasons. The SA pacer played just six games last season picking seven wickets.

Rahul Chahar 

Chhar concludes the likely Punjab Kings XI for IPL 2024. He has not taken too many wickets in the last few seasons and needs to make this season a big one. Chahar picked up just eight wickets last season.

Impact Sub- Harpreet Brar

Punjab Kings can use Harpreet Brar as the impct Sub for IPL 2024. He does a good job with his off-spinners and is a good lower-order hitter as well. Brar has the distinction of dismissing Virat Kohli, AB De Villiers, and Glenn Maxwell in the same match.
